Prom Limos Unlicensed
Two out of five Limos taking youngsters to a school prom were found to be unlicensed to carry passengers when stopped in a spot check.
They and a third a Limo, which was licensed, were also being driven by unlicensed drivers. Now people are being warned by North Somerset Council to check the Credentials of Limousine companies before Hiring a vehicle.
The spot check was carried out at Ashton Court Mansion by Council Licensing Officials and the Police.
The vehicles had been hired privately by the school children attending the event.
One vehicle was also found to have a defective tyre and was stopped by police until the wheel was changed.
North Somerset Council Licensing department is investigating and legal proceedings may follow. Further spot checks are planned.
Cllr Carl Francis-Pester, executive member for licensing said. "This exercise reveals an unacceptable level of unlicensed vehicles and drivers on our roads. The Unlicensed vehicles and drivers stopped during this exercise had not undergone vetting and that is shocking when they are carrying passengers. I would strongly recommend that people hiring Limousines for special occasions check prior to booking to see if they hold the required private hire vehicle and driver licenses from the council. If there is any doubt, contact should be made with our licensing team before making a booking"
